MADHYAPUR THIMI,
Nepal Mandal is world famous for
art, culture and architecture. But today, art, culture and architecture are
gradually disappearing from the Nepal
Mandal. Madhyapur Thimi Nagar,
located in the center of Nepal Mandal,
is also known as a historical city in the world. There are three cities in this
city, Thimi, Nagdesh and Bode.
As Madhyapur Thimi Nagar is a Medieval
(Mallakalin) city, it is also a city full of tangible and intangible art and
culture. Most of the art and culture here has disappeared and some are on the
verge of extinction. Tongue piercing (Jibro
Chhedne Jatra) is one of such cultural festivals. Many people know only
about the procession that will take place on 2nd of Baishakh in Bode, taking
the name of the tongue-dropping procession (Jibro Chhedne Jatra) in Thimi.
But in the Dabali in front of Digu Bhairab under the Balkumari premises of Madhyapur Thimi, the next day of Indra Jatra, on the day of Yenya Punhi, there is the act of piercing the tongue (Jibro Chhedne Jatra).
This tradition could not have happened due to various economic and social
reasons. Because running this tradition requires a huge financial burden.
Because there is a mandatory rule that everyone who helps in this work and
everyone who participates in the festival should be given a feast. Due to which
large amount of money will be spent and the work will be stopped due to lack of
income source.
