KATHMANDU: Ranipokhari's reconstruction, a historic pond in the center of Kathmandu badly damaged by the 2015 Gorkha earthquake, was complete. The water in the pond was refilled on Saturday. The memorial has got its life back with this.
Ramaju Man Manandhar, a National Reconstruction Authority engineer, says about 27 million liters of water were poured into the pond by Saturday. By Sunday evening this number will increase to 30 million litres, and the pond will be full.
Owing to numerous disputes, including the design of the pond itself, and lately, owing to the lockdown implemented to manage the coronavirus crisis; the reconstruction was halted several times. The pond had therefore already become a forgotten playground.
Meanwhile, as its pinnacle is being added to the temple soon, the reconstruction of Balgopaleshwar temple at the center of the pond is also soon to be completed.
