KATHMANDU: The government and the Maoist party headed by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav' signed a three-point agreement in which the group engaged in various violent activities agreed to continue operating peacefully.

The party will lift its concerns and problems by peaceful means, according to a statement released by representatives of both sides' talk teams.

On the other side, the government has agreed to lift the party's ban.

Similarly, all party leaders and cadres who have been detained in recent years will be released by the government.

Other specifics of the agreement will be revealed at a special event on Friday. On behalf of the government and the party, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Biplav himself will speak at the gathering.

The government outlawed the group in 2019, citing its terrorism-related activities such as bombings, assassination, and extortion. It has been arresting leaders and cadres if they are detected since then. It has compelled the party's leaders to remain hidden.

However, the party has recently demonstrated an interest in engaging in discussions to address its concerns. As a result, formal negotiations began on Wednesday.
