Indian news channels face a 'broadcast ban

KATHMANDU: The Multi-System Operators (MSO) agreed to suspend Indian news channels broadcasting in Nepal. The decision will take effect on Thursday, immediately.

Due to the latest decision by the operators, audiences would have no access to any Indian news outlets, except for Doordarshan news operated by the Indian state.

The move comes in the wake of some of the Indian news channels carrying unfounded reports on Nepal, including their defamatory 'shows' on Nepal's Prime Minister along with the Chinese envoy.

Earlier today, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, spokesperson for the ruling Nepal Communist Party, had slammed the Indian media for their 'nonsense' stories on Nepal and Nepali government problems.

These steps follow events in which an Indian news channel, Zee Hindustan, broadcasted an inventive and defamatory program that linked PM Oli to Nepal Hou Yanqi as Chinese ambassador.
