SEOUL: North Korea said it was creating a new coronavirus vaccine on its own, the scientific research council of the country said on Saturday.
According to a study posted on Mirae, the website run by the North 's State Science and Technology Commission, its scientists are currently conducting clinical trials to produce a COVID-19 vaccine, Yonhap News Agency notes.
The study said the vaccine production is being led by a medical biology institute using angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) under the North 's Academy of Medical Science.
The nation, which has yet to report a single case of COVID-19, added that scientists are in discussions about conducting the third phase of a clinical trial, reported IANS.
