KATHMANDU, Local Pashupati area political leaders in Kathmandu have requested that the government dismantle the Pashupati Area Development Trust, claiming that the trust could not protect and maintain the sacred site.
Late, the locals are angry with the trust after a new master plan has been launched that proposes demolishing some residential houses in the area to create other structures for the use of pilgrims and other tourists.
On Friday, the locals, backed by their elected officials, held a protest at the Pashupati Temple's southern gate and demanded the body be scrapped.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City ward 8 chairman Dinesh Kumar Dangol said wards 7, 8, and 9 residents will fight against the mistrust together. Ward 7 chairman Shuddha Dangol likewise complained that the trust had always been a issue for the locals.
Narottam Baidya, a member of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly said the master plan should not be implemented at any expense.
