Matya is a regular Lalitpur community of Newar people festival that in Newari implies the lights festivals. This interesting festival starts promptly in the first part of the day on the third day of the dull fortnight of Shrawan (August). Matya comes after the festival of Kwati punhi (Janai purnima) and Saparu (Known as Gaijatra).
This festival is a long parade of the excited hallowed place walkers who go round all the Buddhist shrines spread in and around the city of Patan. It must be recollected here that Patan alone has in excess of 1300 Buddhist shrines. The quantity of hallowed place walkers who beautifully from this amazing parade is around three to four thousands. People both take an interest in this festival.
They convey assortment of interesting blessings to make contributions to Lord Buddha. The contributions of rice, grains, blossoms, red powders, desserts, incense and master patra (a blessing cup for master) are very regular tin the scene. It is interesting to take note of that most of the altar walker are the light proposals to the shrines. Offering lights specifically to the Buddha on this day is said to imply incredible edification acquired by defeating the Maras (allurements).
There is very interesting tale about the starting points of this festival. Once Shakya Muni Gautam was in profound repentance to accomplish Nirvana. The Maras, terribly desirous of his assurance came down to diminish him. They came camouflaging themselves in various t structures. Some wearer as wild looking evil spirits and some in apsara from (damsls, etc. They all made every conceivable endeavor to lure him yet all futile. In a longrun Shakya Muni conquered the Maras and became Buddha, the edified one. It is said that later on the Maras came to admit their wrongdoing to master Buddha and venerated him with significant privilege. Since the time this festival is accepted to have appeared to check this extraordinary day.
It is interesting to take note of that the then various neighborhoods. Of Patan have for quite some time been given to the customary running of this festival parade. The obligation of sorting out this parade goes to every one of those areas once in every ten years.
There is very interesting convention as indicated by which the supporting Tole of this parade must train a group of customary drum-Players who are required to show every best expertise they have when they are approached to act in the general population on this day.
The name of these drummers group is known as Naubaja Khalah. They play out this show in a very unique manner just at the part Toles dedicated to this Matya festival.
