Bir Hospital is now approved for care at Covid-19

KATHMANDU: The government has agreed to establish Bir Hospital as the hospital dedicated to treating Covid-19 patients.

Dr Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population, said that a meeting of the Health Emergency Command System was held today to this effect.

Dr Gautam added that the National Trauma Center will include the standard health care services provided by Bir Hospital.

With the government's latest change, even Bir Hospital patients will be moved to the National Trauma Centre.

Before that, the Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital and the Armed Police Hospital in Balambu are designated as the dedicated hospitals in the capital for treating Covid-19 patients.

The Department of the Ministry and Health Service will likewise deploy medical students from various medical institutions as volunteers for the prevention and control of coronavirus infection after signing the contract.

Spokesperson for the Ministry, Dr Gautam, said the volunteers would visit the places contaminated with coronavirus to raise awareness about events.

The Ministry of Finance has also released budget for 60 ICU beds. Dr. Gautam reported that at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) and Dhulikhel Hospital, certain ICU beds would be available.
