China promises help to tackle COVID-19

KATHMANDU: China has said that expanding assistance to fight the coronavirus pandemic would hold neighboring countries in top priority.

During a video conference with foreign ministers from Afghanistan , Pakistan and Nepal, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed his commitment and called for further efforts to improve cooperation on COVID-19 prevention and control.

In the post-COVID-19 period Wang made four recommendations concerning regional cooperation. Such countries would collectively condemn politicizing or stigmatizing viruses, he said.

He also called for efforts to improve collaboration in prevention and control of anti-epidemics and to encourage cooperation in vaccine research, as well as economic recovery.

Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali thanked the Chinese government for their support, and praised China's victory over the coronavirus, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mentioning that China is Nepal's nearest neighbor, Gyawali shared the view that he is still entirely hopeful of receiving support in the future.
