KATHMANDU: The application for registration by the Election Commission ( EC) of the Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) party raised eyebrows in the political spectrum , especially within the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), which is currently in dispute.

Last week a group of youths entered the EC and applied for CPN-UML registration, which was previously a party headed by Prime Minister KP Oli.

In May 2018, the party merged with the then Maoist (Center) to form the NCP.

Leaders of the ruling NCP, including its vice president Bam Dev Gautam, have alleged that PM Oli is attempting to revive the CPN-UML as the NCP is currently facing an internal rift.

Up to 21 people have registered for Party registration at the EC.

According to reports, CPN-UML chairman is Morang district's Sandhya Tiwari while Ramechhap's Bhagawati Khadka is vice chairman.

Equally, Dhanusha's Manish Kumar Upadhyaya is the General Secretary.

Meanwhile the party's members include Nilam Pokharel of Jhapa, Pawan Bista of Kathmandu, Umesh Mahato of Sarlahi, Usha Kumari Jha of Dhanusha, Pradeep Raj Giri of Kathmandu, Kiran Lamichhane of Kathmandu, Nishal Basnet of Siraha, Purnima Tamang of Kavre, Bimala Karki of Bhaktapur, Sanjeev Bista of Kathmandu, and Bimala Bista Rokka of Kathmandu.
