KATHMANDU:
All Nepal's National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), the ruling Nepal Communist
Party (NCP) student wind, has demanded an impeachment of Chief Justice (CJ)
Cholendra Shumsher Rana.
In the then
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Armed Police Force Ranjan Koirala
involved murder case, ANNFSU has requested that CJ Rana be impeached for the
decision to reduce life imprisonment to eight years in jail.
ANNFSU, in
solidarity with the demonstrators seeking justice in the murder case, requested
that the CJ and another Supreme Court Justice be prosecuted 'for their misuse
of authority and misinterpretation of the statutes.' CJ Rana's joint bench with
Justice Tej Bahadur KC on June 29 had reduced the murder-convict's 20-year
prison term then DIG Koirala to eight years and six months.
Koirala, who
served a jail term on charges of killing his own wife, was released from
Thursday, based on the latest verdict. The District Court and the High Court
had previously issued a verdict of life imprisonment on Koirala which
confiscated all his properties. In January 2012 Koirala admitted to murdering
his wife.
