Agency. A rooster that has been in police custody for eight months has been released in Ghotmi district of Pakistan's Sindh province. Police released the male after a local court ordered his release and handover to his owner. Four other males are still in custody at two police stations in Sindh province.

While the males were playing a fighting game, the police raided and arrested them along with the players. Some time ago, Zafar Mirani, a resident, had appealed to the court to release his cock from police custody and hand it over to him. The court granted his appeal and ordered the police to release the rooster and hand it over to its owner.

The police were also being harassed to keep the released males. The chickens eat millet worth Rs 100 a day, which is said to be paid by the police from their own pockets. Cockfighting is a very popular sport in rural Pakistan. But there is a fine of Rs 500 and imprisonment for one year for playing this game. The males were arrested eight months ago, along with two dozen others. All but one of the released males are still in police custody.
