Kathmandu Metropolitan City will provide grant up to Rs. 3.2 million for building heritage friendly houses

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City is going to give a grant of Rs. 800,000 to Rs. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has also allocated budget in the current fiscal year to implement this arrangement which was earlier implemented by the local level including Bhaktapur Municipality.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sampada Bhawan Preservation and Construction Standards and Convenience Procedure, 2078 BS, published in the local gazette on July 6, has divided the Sampadamaitri Bhawan into four parts and provided grants. According to the criteria, those who want to build a building can apply for a grant from the metropolis. But so far no one has asked for a grant, said Ishwar Man Dangol, a spokesman for the corporation.

How much grant for building a house?

There are two types of criteria to keep the traditional house as it is or to remove the old face in a new house. Any Mallakalin or Rana house is in the same condition as it is, so retrofitting or repairing the same preserved house is placed in category A. It is mentioned in the gazette of the corporation that when such a house is constructed in a protected monument or heritage area, mixed and old settlement or outside it, the rate of Rs.

Similarly, a grant of Rs. 1.6 million to a maximum of Rs. If the B-class house is built in a protected monument or heritage area, the corporation will provide Rs 2 million to the householder and up to Rs 1.6 million to the house built beyond that.

Similarly, a house that has been built in a modern style has been given a facelift in the old style of the previous face. A grant of Rs. 1.6 million to Rs. 1.2 million has been provided for this category of houses. Under this, houses built within the protected monument and heritage area will be given Rs. 1.6 million, houses built within the mixed and old settlement area will be given Rs.

Similarly, when a new house is being built, the house that will be built in the old style of the face is placed in D category. A grant of up to Rs. 1.2 million will be given to those who build this house in the heritage or memorial area. It is mentioned in the gazette published by the corporation that a grant of Rs. 1 million will be given for building a house in a mixed and old settlement and up to Rs.

The committee will inspect the field on the basis of the percentage of completion of the construction work of the building selected for the grant after the approval of such grant map or design.

This policy of the Kathmandu metropolis, which has always been criticized on the issue of heritage protection, has been praised by the engineers and conservationists working in the field of heritage protection, saying that it plays an important role in preserving the originality of Kathmandu. Property protection expert Rabindra Puri said that the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has done a commendable job in the last year of the people's representatives. "Even though some other municipalities have already practiced it, the oldest municipality in the country has not been able to assimilate it," says Puri.
