President Bhandari congratulates parties for demonstrating cohesion in times of crisis

KATHMANDU, President Bidhya Devi Bhandari congratulated all political parties for demonstrating unity during times of crisis, especially on the issue of amending the constitution to modify the revised map of Nepal in the coat of arms.

"The unity and consensus between the political parties was laudable," she told leaders at a meeting on Wednesday evening at the President's Office in Shital Niwas.

The political parties in Nepal had stood together on the issue of incorporating territories, including Kalapani, Lipu Lekh and Limpiyadhura, into the revised political and administrative map of the country.

"I have to thank all the political parties for this solidarity for the unparalleled cooperation displayed in amending the Constitution to change the current national seal by adding the country's new map," she told the members.

She also expressed happiness about the unity in the response to COVID-19 while thanking the physicians , nurses, other health workers and security personnel at the frontline of the pandemic war.

Expressing concern over environmental degradation, the President stressed the need for unity among political parties to preserve ecological equilibrium through continued use of the river system and other natural resources, adds the statement issued by the Office spokesman Hari Prasad Dahal.

The President also expressed the trust that such cooperation and unity among the parties on the nation's burning issues would make an significant contribution to the country's socio-economic growth.

President Bhandari had invited members of various political parties to discuss contemporary issues, including the amendment to the Constitution, COVID-19. She also appreciated the role and contribution of front-line staff, including doctors , nurses, Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police, among others, during this difficult hour when the country is reeling under pandemic conditions.

The meeting included Vice President Nanda Kishor Pun, Prime Minister KP Oli, SPeaker Agni Sapkota, Chairman of the National Assembly Ganesh Timilsina, former Prime Ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, Sher Bahadur Deuba, Babu Ram Bhattarai and Khil Raj Regmi.

Also in attendance were the leaders Mahantha Thakur, Upendra Yadav, Kamal Thapa, Rajendra Mahato, CHitra Bahadur KC, Ram Saran Mahat and Gyanendra Bahadur Karki.
