An endangered greedy eagle was found in a Madhyapur Thimi

KATHMANDU: In Madhyapur Thimi-8 Bode, an endangered eagle has been found in and around the beautiful area known as Mini Kositappu. A team led by renowned wildlife photographer and bird watcher Sanjay Tha Shrestha found the greedy eagle during a bird count and search from the Shalinadi River area of Kathmandu to Bode Mini Kositappu. During the census, another endangered bird Gomayu Mahachil was found in the number of 25 as well as 106 different species of birds, the team said. The team counted the native birds found in the area along with the winter waterfowl.

The team led by Shrestha included bird watchers and wildlife photographers including Ram Chandra Moyan Shrestha, Gopi Shrestha, Pemba Sherpa, Sugam Tamrakar, Satyam Pathak and Ayusha Poudel. The team counted the birds in collaboration with Nepal Ornithologists Association, Wetland International, Himalayan Natural, ZSL, Nepal Bird Conservation Association, Pokhara Bird Society, Kositappu Word Watching Camp Pvt. And Northpoint Mall Pvt.

The municipality has not been able to come up with a conservation policy even though the coastal area of Manohara River in Bode of Madhyapur thimi has been gaining popularity as Mini Kositappu in recent times. In the same area, urbanization is increasing rapidly. The Madhyapur thimi Municipality has also decided to run a land consolidation project with the objective of systematic urbanization of the slum dwellers in the area. Although there is ample potential for bird tourism in the scenic area, increasing urbanization has put it at risk, said Shrestha. According to Shrestha, the habitat of waterfowl is also at risk due to daily sand extraction, dumping of garbage, water pollution and destruction of bird habitat in Manohara River.
