The interest of Kathmandu has made it one of the 25 heritage sites in the world which needs immediate attention

KATHMANDU: The World Monuments Fund (WMF) has named the Kathmandu Valley 2022 World Monuments Watch, one of the 26 World Heritage Sites of World Importance, which needs to be protected.

 

TheChiva Chaitya of Nepal had nominated the Hitti of Kathmandu for its recognition in the World Heritage List. Selected from 227 nominations from around the world. These sites powerfully demonstrate the global challenges of climate change, unbalanced tourism, under-representation, and crisis recovery, emphasizing the need for greater action to support heritage sites and the people who care for them.

 

The World Monuments Fund (WMF) is a leading independent organization dedicated to protecting some of the world's most valuable places to enrich people's lives and build mutual understanding between cultures and communities. Has been the organization is headquartered in New York City and has offices in Cambodia, India, Peru, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom.

 

Launched in 1996 with the founding sponsor American Express, the Watch is announced every two years and includes heritage sites nominated by individuals and community-based organizations around the world.

 

Prabodh BS Kasa, President of Chiva Chaitya, said, "We feel that the inclusion of Kathmandu's Hitti in Watch 2022 has given due respect to the importance of Nepali heritage in the world arena."
