Oli-Dahal's 'one-on-one' talks conclude Agree to begin

KATHMANDU: The one-on-one talks between Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and KP Oli, Prime Minister, ended today with both leaders agreeing to hold another round of talks on Wednesday. It is learned that the meeting held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar ended in a positive way.

What transpired between the two, however, has not yet been revealed. Thegoal of the meeting was to narrow the gaps between the two that have escalatedover the last two weeks.

Previously, Chairman Dahal insisted on 'one-on-one' talks to curb disagreements between the two that have escalated over the last two weeks. Meanwhile, senior party leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has not taken part in the conference, which means that Nepal's senior leader will be left out again.

Senior leader Nepal and his assistants are frustrated that they have not been included in the talks. It is found that NCP Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, too, is unhappy with the 'one-on-one' dialog between NCP's top guns. In the last few weeks, the two leaders have been on the verge of serious issues , particularly after PM Oli accused the dissident faction of dancing to Indian tunes to oust him.

The Sunday conference, called 'decisive,' also ended inconclusively with the two leaders agreeing to hold another round of talks. Meanwhile, the meeting of the Standing Committee of the NCP was scheduled for Wednesday to allow more time for talks between Oli and Dahal.

It should be noted that as many as 53 central committee members of the NCP launched a campaign on Sunday to pressurize the party leadership to convene the party's central committee meeting. The leaders held a Zoom conference and addressed the convening of a central committee meeting to discuss and settle internal conflicts.

The central leaders took the initiative to call the meeting at a time when the intra-party conflict had reached a new height. According to them, the meeting of the 441-member Central Committee would have more effect than the 45-member Standing Committee.

According to the NCP Law, the leadership would have to call a meeting of the Central Committee if 25%, i.e. 110 members, have signed the paper.
