Local level in Valley postpones service until 31 August

KATHMANDU: Eighteen local levels in the Kathmandu valley decided to postpone their service delivery except for the essential ones until August 31.

The Valley Municipality Forum made such a decision on Monday citing the risk of corona virus infection.

Similarly, a decision was taken to extend the scope of corona virus communication tracing and testing with cooperation of the Ministry of Health and Population for virus prevention and control.

Forum chairman and mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Bidya Sundar Shakya said the touch monitoring and testing jobs will be done on a regular basis from Tuesday in different municipalities in the valley.

As per the records of the valley’s local levels till date a total of 2,746 cases were reported and contact tracing of almost 28,500 individuals would be conducted, Shakya shared about the Forum’s preparation.

As agreed, these people's tests will be done by August 31 and valley dwellers are advised to take the best measures to stay healthy from the virus.

At the meeting, Health Minister's Public Health Advisor Dr. Khem Karki said the valley has at least 15,000 cases according to the estimates adding, "Situation will be dreadful if we fail to break the chain. So we've got to work around the clock to contain the corona virus.

The representatives present at the meeting called for top priority to be given to contact tracing, monitoring, and isolation steps to combat the corona virus pandemic.
