Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader, has stated that he is prepared for a showdown with the United States.

Kathmandu: North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un, has stated that his country should start preparing for talks and disputes with the US.

Rather than negotiation, Kim feels that unprecedented preparations for the confrontation should be made.

Joe Biden, the US Vice President, has declared that he is unwilling to engage in diplomatic negotiations with North Korea.

For the first time, Kim has addressed the Biden administration directly.

Kim recognized that his country is suffering from "severe food shortages" during a meeting of the ruling Workers' Party's crucial central committee this week in Pyongyang, North Korea's capital.

In reaction to Kim's statements, the state-run KCNA said, "We must be fully prepared to face our state's dignity and the interests of our independent development, as well as North Korea's security and the guarantee of a peaceful environment."

"If there is an attempt to control the situation on the Korean Peninsula or engage in development activities," he warned, "North Korea would reply swiftly." Kim and Biden have an acrimonious relationship.

Biden called Kim a "thug" before the US election, and North Korea held a military parade with fresh missile sightings just days before Biden started office.

Biden called North Korea a "severe threat to world security" in April. North Korea reacted quickly, claiming that Biden's comments suggested that he would continue to be unfriendly to the country. - Source: BBC
